Happy Good Friday, for those that celebrate Easter! It seems that Easter snuck up on me this year since the past two months have been a whirlwind due to Mirella‘s birth.
Anyhow, I have to say that I finally feel “normal” again, and more like myself after getting back into CrossFit (doing it consistently 5 days a week) for a month now. I look forward to my workouts because it feels so good to be active again and gaining my strength and endurance back. The first week of working out at six weeks postpartum was rough, but each week has gotten better (definitely not easier, as I’m continuing to push myself harder each day). I still have a long way to go in order to get back to my pre-pregnancy shape, but I feel good, have more energy, and best of all: I’m starting to see changes in my body (especially how my clothes fit!).
I’m trying not to dwell on the scale so much as how my clothes fit. It’s all about being fit, healthy and strong, and NOT about being skinny. Don’t get me wrong, I want to lose the weight to fit into all my pre-pregnancy clothes, but I’m not obsessing over it, especially as it has only been 10 weeks since I gave birth. Instead, I’m focusing on working out 5 days a week (which is challenging in it’self with two kids in tow) and refining my eating habits. When I was pregnant, I was addicted to peanut butter pretzels and ooey gooey desserts, so I’ve definitely cut back on those two things!
Since I’m not one for taking pictures of myself, I’ll share my stats…
My weight prior to getting pregnant: 118
Final pregnancy weight: 156 (I gained 38 pounds, 10 more pounds than what I gained with Keenan!).
Current weight: 134
So, I’ve lost 22 pounds, but I still have more to go. I’m not stressing about it, though I hate that pretty much all of my pre-pregnancy clothes still don’t fit! I”m in that in-between state and I hate to spend money on clothes that will only fit me now. But, I’m hopeful things will start fitting soon as my body starts to change.
As for CrossFit, I’m finally starting to see my strength and endurance come back. On Wednesday, my 3 rep maximum push press was 105 lbs and I was able to clean it! Prior to being pregnant, my 1 rep maximum push press was 115, and my 1 rep maximum power clean was 125 (almost getting 130), so I’m not that far off! Deadlifts and back squats are another story, but with time, I know I will get there. I love seeing my strength improve and feeling more fit everyday, as that is what keeps me going for more. Stay tuned, as I’ll be sure to post more updates on my progress towards getting back into my pre-pregnancy shape.
Have a wonderful Easter!
Questions:
How do you gauge your progress towards getting in shape? Do you use the scale or look at how your clothes fit?
For all of the veteran mommies, how long did it take you to get back into your pre-pregnancy shape with each of your pregnancies?
You’re doing great! You’re right- working out 5x/week with two kids is totally impressive. And I’m sure your body will continue to find it’s way back to it’s pre-pregnant state. I lost the weight from my first quickly but held onto about 5 pounds until I stopped breastfeeding, and felt like it was around my middle. My body really liked that extra until I was no longer making milk!
Thanks, Laura! The weight came off fairly quick with my son, too, but it seems things are moving slower this time around. I know eventually it will happen!
Sounds like you are doing great! You are so right to not stress about it and just focus on easing back into the workouts. The weight will come as time goes on. With Ayden I stressed so much and pushed myself so hard that I held onto the weight and majorly struggled with breast feeding. Not to mention ruined my metabolism and set my self up for further struggles down the road. If only I had been patient and focused more on being “healthy” than losing the weight. Keep it up girl!
Thanks, Giselle!
