Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I can’t believe Mirella is already 5 weeks old today; crazy how fast she is growing!
Since both kiddos are napping peacefully, I thought I would pop in really quick and share some highlights from our weekend. Since the weather has been gorgeous, we decided to take our first family of four outing to Daffodil Hill and have a picnic.
It was so nice to get out of the house (since I’ve been mainly housebound since Mirella was born), enjoy the weather and spend quality family time. I have to say it definitely takes longer to get out the door with another child in the mix, especially a newborn who decides she is hungry (again) and needs a diaper change right when we are ready to leave! Poor Keenan, he had put on his clothes (all by himself!), packed his little backpack with some toys and kept asking, “Are we ready to go yet?” I had to remind him that it takes a while to get out the door with a baby. He was really good about it and remained patient, but I felt so bad because he was so excited to go! We eventually got out the door with our picnic packed and enjoyed a lovely drive through the foothills before arriving to see the beautiful daffodils! It was so hard not to pick them!
Before leaving the hill, we had to take some silly pictures!
On our way home, we stopped in Sutter Creek for Keenan’s favorite treat, an ice cream cone at this wonderful old fashion ice cream parlor. Keenan was in a hog heaven and unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture!
Since it’s Monday and I haven’t joined Katie’s MIMM link up in a while, I’m linking up with her today. Thanks, Katie, for always hosting!
Well, that’s a wrap for now. I hear both kids starting to wake up!
Questions:
What was marvelous about your weekend?
If you have multiple kids, how long does it take you to get everyone ready and out the door?
I love the family picture in the flowers – gorgeous!!!
It will get much faster getting out the door – a few months and you will just grab everyone and everything and go!!
Thank you! Everyday gets easier, so I’m sure I’ll get my routine down soon!
How fun! I’ve never been to Daffodil Hill but hear it’s gorgeous and it looks like it from your pictures! Glad you got to enjoy a fun outing 🙂
It’s beautiful up there! You will have to go!
Keenan is just the right age to start being independent with dressing, etc. and in my opinion it’s good for kids to learn that the world doesn’t revolve around them. So, I wouldn’t feel bad when he has to be patient, as long as he’s getting attention at other times too (which I know you’re doing!). Getting out the door for us varies, but it’s usually not too bad at this point. The oldest kids just need directions to complete tasks and are usually waiting in the car for me (sometimes for a few minutes!) before I’m ready to go. Nikolas is pretty easy going and so I try to get everything ready to go, and then sit down to feed him just before we leave. He’s also pretty quick at feeds now and can be done in less than 10 minutes. So just give it time… it will get better! Also, I like to keep a small bag with a couple diapers, pack of wipes, and a change of baby clothes in the car so that in case I run out the door in a rush without checking the diaper bag for a full supply of things, I’ve always got back ups in the car. It takes the pressure off to know that the bare necessities are always there even if I leave the whole diaper bag by mistake!
Looks like you guys had a great time… I’m looking forward to our tulip festival in coming weeks!
Thanks, Sarah. You always seem to say the right thing and know how to make me feel better! Keenan is definitely of the age to be independent and since the arrival of Mirella, he has been doing a great job of doing so. I love the idea of having a back-up bag in the car; I’ll have to do that!
I’m about to be a family of 4 in August so I need to go read your previous post! Sounds like you survived pretty well though!
I ran the NYC Half Sunday and it was MARVELOUS!
Yes, it’s definitely an adjustment going from one to two kids! I didn’t think it would be hard, but it sure is! Congrats on your half marathon!
You guys look so great!! Yes, I’m going to have to get used to everything taking at least twice as long to get anywhere… 🙂
Thank you!
Getting out the door takes ages… although it is easier now that the “baby” is actually a toddler. It’s just harder with winter. Judging by this gorgeous post, you haven’t been suffering in the winter we’ve been having?! I used to live in northern California for two years and if I wanted to see snow, I’d fly back here or head to Tahoe!
I can imagine it’s harder with winter! My brother lives in Montreal and we have visited during the winter! We love Tahoe, but there isn’t much snow this year due to our drought. It’s pretty sad. Where in Northern California did you live?
Love that first picture!!!
Thank you!
Love the pictures!
Love, mom
