As most of you know, my brother and his family have been here (staying with my parents) since July 2nd and today is their last day. It’s always hard to say goodbye, but it is even harder for Keenan as he gets older. He and my niece have been playing and swimming together pretty much everyday, so I know it is going to feel weird once they are gone. On our way over to my parents’ house earlier today to say goodbye and swim one last time with my niece, Keenan told me “he was going to feel sad when they are not here.” It broke my heart. He has had such a great time playing with his cousins (even though they can get on each others’ nerves from time to time!) that he doesn’t want the fun to end. It has been such a treat to have them only 5 minutes away the past few weeks when my brother and his family are actually 3,000 miles away, and Skype isn’t the same! In addition to Skype, I told Keenan that he and his cousin can write letters (or send each other pictures) which is what I did with my best friend who lived in Oregon when I was a child.
Anyhow…absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? Or, maybe that is just for couples in love?! Either way, it makes our visits that more special, as we all appreciate our time with one another even more since we live so far apart.
It has been a marvelous month with family, so I thought I would share a few highlights from the past few weeks…
Annual cousin picture on the 4th of July
Peach picking in our family farms’ orchard!
Drinking peach milkshakes or “wearing” peach milkshake mustaches!
Playtime with Mirella
A quick picture with Nonna on the last day of swim lessons!
That’s a wrap. Time sure flies when you are having fun!
Thanks Katie, for hosting another Marvelous In Monday!
Question:
Do you have family that live far away? If so, how do you stay in touch?
Oh – it is so hard!!! I have always wished my boys had cousins close by or aunts and uncles. Sadly, they have none of it but it has been OK.
Glad that y’all have enjoyed the past couple of weeks with your brother and his family. I hope Keenan is old enough to remember all the fun of this summer and build on it the next time y’all are all together!!
Yes, it’s hard, but Keenan definitely has many fun memories that will only get better throughout the years!
Love the pictures and so glad your family had a great time together! It is so hard to say goodbye, though. Especially for kids.
My husband’s parents live in California and his siblings are spread out over Colorado, Idaho, and the Caribbean Islands (and my family is all within 2 hours of each other :s). His parents just stayed with us for four days this weekend and we miss them so much already!
We stay in touch with my husband’s side of the family over Skype, phone calls, and Facebook or emails. It works, but like you said – it’s just not the same as being in person!
Thanks, Amy! Wow, I can’t even imagine having family scattered all over as your husband’s siblings! Skype and phone calls are not the same. But, it certainly makes our time together that much more special. Have a great weekend!
