Sorry there wasn’t a post yesterday! I slept through my alarm to get up early and write a blog post, in addition to working out.  Keenan also slept in until 7:30 (which never happens!). My body definitely told me that I needed rest, and it felt so good to get some extra sleep. With that being said, my whole day was thrown off, but in a good way. We enjoyed the perfect, lazy morning inside coloring and reading by the fireplace, since it was so chilly outside. In the afternoon, I fit in a quick workout before heading to rehearsal for our church Christmas pageant. By the time we got home, ate dinner and put Keenan to bed, I had no motivation to write anything.

Anyhow, for today’s What I Ate Wednesday post (thanks to the lovely Jenn for always hosting), I’m excited to share Nona Lim soups with all of you! Nona Lim contacted me a while ago and asked if they could send a few of their soups for me to sample. They sent their tomato, red lentil veggie and carrot ginger soups.

Nona Lim soups

Nona Lim is an artisan food company based in Oakland. Nona’s company first started as a food-base detox program, proving healthy, allergy-free fresh meals. Since Nona’s soups were such a bit hit among her customers in the program, she created a retail line of them. All of the soups are made fresh and by hand, using non-GMO ingredients and no preservatives. They are all gluten-free, vegan and very low in sodium.

Tomato soup

Since I love tomato soup, we tried it first, topping it with a dollop of Greek yogurt and pairing it with a toasted turkey and cheese sandwich. The soup was very flavorful, had a little bit of kick to it (which I like) and tasted very fresh. The only downside was it was a little too thin. I love thicker soups, but overall, it was very tasty. Keenan and my husband both enjoyed it, too. The next day, we tried the carrot ginger soup, and since I’m not a huge ginger fan, I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it. But, it tasted great (not overall gingery) and again, had a little kick to it. My husband loves ginger, so he enjoyed it, but felt it was missing something. He added some hot sauce to give it a little extra punch, as he says. Lastly, we tried the red lentil veggie soup and I have to say, it was my least favorite. The soup was thin and too bland for all of our tastes. It was definitely missing something. I loved all of the fresh veggies added to it, but it needed a little more flavor.

Carrot Ginger soup

Overall, I was impressed with the freshness and the quality of all three soups. I love that they are all made from wholesome, high quality ingredients and contain very little sodium (since so many packaged soups do). My only complaint would be the size of the container is too small. I would love to see the soups offered in a family size container! The pouches contain barely enough soup for two people, so it would be nice to see them contain enough for four people.

Since we always make our own soup, it is nice to see such a healthy, fresh and homemade quality product on the market. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for healthy, prepared meal ideas.
