Today is a special day: it is my oldest brother Chris’s birthday. My brother would have been 42 years old today. We lost him sixteen years ago in a freak accident on my family’s farm. Even though he was 10 years older than me, he was a wonderful big brother, always looking out for me. When my middle brother would pick on me when we were kids, Chris would always come to my rescue! In addition, he always looked out for me at school, making sure I was okay. He babysat me when I was little, drove me to school (even walking me to class) and picked me up. He was really the best brother a little sister could ever have! To keep his name and memory alive, we named Keenan’s middle name after my brother. It’s funny because there are things that Keenan does or looks that he gives that my mom says reminds her of Chris. For one, Keenan refuses to wear anything but his underwear around the house, which apparently my brother loved to do when he was little. Also, Keenan loves music (and my brother used to play in a band!) and going to work (riding on the tractors) with my husband and Avo, which my brother loved when he was kid, too. I wish my brother was here to meet both Keenan and Mirella, as I know he would have been a tremendous uncle.
Keenan and Mirella will always have a special guardian angel looking after them, their Uncle Chris. Happy Birthday, Chris! You will always be in our hearts. We love you and miss you!
Before I forget, I’m not sure how much I’ll be blogging next week, as we are heading to Disneyland for Keenan’s birthday! It will be his first time going and I can’t wait to see his reaction!! If you follow me on instagram, twitter or Facebook, I’ll be popping in from time to time to share some pictures of our trip.
Have a great weekend!
You and your brother had some a wonderful relationship! I am so sorry for your families loss… I hope that you and your family can enjoy Keenan’s first Disney adventure! I look forward to the pictures!
Thanks, Amy. He was a tremendous big brother and I hope that Keenan and Mirella will have the same kind of relationship as they get older.
Oh I’m so sorry about your brother – happy birthday to him!!!
Love that you see bits of him in Keenan!!!
Have a great time at Disney!
Thanks, Kim!
