I don’t know about you, but Valentine’s Day always says chocolate to me! Even though my husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day since his birthday is the next day and my mom’s is the day before, I always love to bake something decadent with chocolate for us to share. V-day is a good excuse to have a little dessert! To feel less guilty about indulging, I try to make the dessert a little healthier by swapping out not so healthy ingredients for healthier ones, but sometimes you just have to have the real deal, i.e. decadent brownies. If I make something that isn’t healthy, I try to only make a little bit so I don’t have many left to tempt me later.
Here are my 10 favorite chocolate desserts (some are my own recipes from the archives that I forgot about!)…
Healthier Funky Monkey Brownies
My Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe
Paleo Chocolate Chip Protein Cookies (these also make good snacks that you won’t feel guilty about!)
Paleo Flourless Chocolate Chip Cookies (another good snack in addition to being a dessert!)
Strawberry and Brownie Parfaits
Healthy Chocolate Fudge Zucchini Brownies
Double Chocolate Brownie Cookies
Flourless Chocolate Chip Brownie Pie (which is what I plan to make for V-Day this Saturday!)
Questions:
Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
What is your favorite chocolate dessert? If you are not a chocolate lover, what is your favorite dessert?
We typically don’t celebrate V-day for a few reasons. 1) We used to have to help my mother in-law with her flower shop and it made us dread the day because it was exhausting. 2) We like to celebrate our love for each other whenever we feel and 3) we don’t like having a holiday dictate when we have to supposedly do that. We tend to make our own time here and there for each other when we feel we need it so really we don’t need to celebrate on a certain day. We may still have a nice dinner but we don’t make a big hoopla about it and we don’t get gifts for each other.
The recipes you posted look amazing and I am definitely going to try a few out. I’m not a big chocolate fan but I love a good brownie. And when I say good it means it isn’t too fudgy and has some sort of nut (preferably walnut). I cannot pass that up and occasionally get cravings for them and have to make some.
I agree with you 100%! We don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day either. We feel you should express your love for someone everyday of the year, not just on a commercial driven holiday.
I always love a good brownie with walnuts! I’m actually making a batch for my mom’s birthday tomorrow.
Wow – some really awesome looking chocolate treats here today.
We don’t really do much for Valentine’s day and I don’t mind at all!!
Same here, but I always love a good excuse to make something chocolately! 🙂
We never celebrate Valentine’s Day! But now you have me craving chocolate. 🙂 Those truffles look so good and I may even try to make them – I bet avocado would work so well.
I have been wanting to use avocado in baking for a while now but I haven’t gotten around to it yet, so I might have to make them this weekend!
I agree, some very yummy recipes that I will need to try!
My husband and I were just talking last night about how lovely it is to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Yeah, it’s commercialized but so is a fat man in a red suit sneaking into your home with gifts. Ever since having our little one, it has been very difficult to set aside time for each other. By having a day on the calendar each year that reminds us to show our love and appreciation for those in our lives, gives us a good reason to make the time. Last night we did something that we haven’t done in quite a while – we turned the lights down low, lit candles, and had a lovely dinner at the table – just the two of us. It sounds sad that we don’t do that often, but after very long days we just deflate onto our comfortable couch – sometimes with TV trays.
I love you perspective on Valentine’s Day. It does provide a nice reminder to do something for the ones that we love, even if it is commercialized. I never really thought about it that way.
Dinner by candle light sounds nice and something that my husband and I need to do, too!
