The holidays have come and gone, January is in full swing with lots to do and February will be here before we know it. Just writing that sentence make my shoulders tense up. It’s hard to not get overwhelmed with the mounds of to-do lists, projects to complete for our home, my business and at my son’s preschool. I wish we could slowly ease into January, but it never seems possible. Once the new year is here, it is always full speed ahead, at least in our household (and life!).

Don’t get me wrong, I love all of it, and I tend to say “yes” to more things than I should (which is one thing I’m constantly working on…to say no more), which gets me into trouble when I feel so consumed with everything. As my husband says, “one day and one thing at a time,” which are words I tend to say to myself more often than not. I don’t want to be so “busy” with life that I forget to enjoy the little things, like the silly moments with my kids, random questions from my curious five year old, or the sneak attack hugs and kisses. It’s all about finding that balance and just figuring things out as I go.

Family

For one, I’m so grateful to be able to stay home with my kiddos while running my own business of personal training, wellness coaching and Juice Plus. Aside from training clients in the mornings, I can run the rest of my business when I want, making my own hours, which I’m so blessed to be able to do. Things can get challenging at times, but what is life without a little obstacle to get through? Balancing mommy duty with work will continuously be a juggling act. In the end, I wouldn’t change it for the world and I love that I can be with my kids every day.

Secondly, I love what I do, and not a day goes by where I don’t look forward to training my clients before the sun rises or helping others get healthier (whatever their goals may be). Seeing my clients succeed in their health and fitness goals makes it all worth it.

Lastly, I want to show my kids that anything is possible, no matter how difficult it seems, how far or how long it takes. Dreams can come true. It is about determination, persistence, hard work, patience and never giving up. When I was younger, I always said I wanted to own my own business and stay home with my kids like my mom was able to do for my brothers and me. But, once I was pregnant with my son, staying home didn’t seem possible with all of the expenses that go with raising a child. How could we make it work financially? How could I start my own business and succeed? My husband was my biggest supporter and reassured me that we would be okay. We made major cuts to our budget, learned to live frugally, and did a better of job identifying our needs vs. wants. With that, I was able to resign from my corporate wellness position once my son turned a year old and stay home while building my personal training and wellness coaching business. It has been a gradual process (since my family always comes first!) that has taken a lot of time and effort, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. It truly was one of the best decisions of my life to stay home with my kiddos and follow my dream.
